centriole
A structure composed of microtubules that is found in the nucleus and is involved in the formation of the spindle apparatus that aids in the orderly parceling out of duplicated chromosomes to daughter cells in the process of cell division. The centriole is also identical in appearence to the basal body, the organelle that is embedded at the periphery of the cell and serves as the base of the cell' s locomotive appendages, the fl agella and cilia.
